PROJECT PORTFOLIO

Private Residence
Oakton, Virginia

What started out as a kitchen redesign become a whole-house renovation when the homeowners considered how they live, work and entertain. The renovation included doubling the size of the kitchen and bringing Old World touches to every room, including the guest powder room.

The front entrance was given a dramatic facelift by replacing the existing brick front with field stone to match the existing wall. The front windows, now part of the kitchen, were shortened to allow room for the cabinets on the inside. Careful planning and execution saved the magnificent Japanese maple that gracefully dominates the front yard.

What was once an under-used living room is now a dramatic dining room, perfect for the grand entertaining that these homeowners love. The fireplace and built-in buffet were added and stained to match the kitchen. An additional window (recycled from the old kitchen) brings in lots of natural light.

The dining room now features a large door out to the inviting patio and large, lovely backyard, allowing for seamless all-season entertaining.
