These “before” pictures point out two major problems with
the house. The flat Mansard roof did not allow rainwater to run off,
giving the homeowners numerous problems with leaks and water damage.
Less destructive but still troubling was the “front” door,
which was actually on the side of the house and opened into a dark,
awkward split foyer. |

A beautiful new pitched roof solved the home’s water problems,
and Craftsman style expression in the design gave the house new
character and panache. Craftsman touches include the two-tone cedar
siding, the muntins (grids) on the windows, and the charming pergola
over the back patio.

The
new 1 ½ story entrance puts the front door back in front
where it belongs. The expanse of glass, Craftsman windows, added
lighting and bold front walk give the house better curb appeal and
make it much more welcoming.
